Thinking of starting a mom blog? You’re not alone! In recent years, starting a blog as a mom has become increasingly popular. Blogging can be a great way to share your stories and experiences with other moms. With the right plan, you can create an engaging and successful blog for yourself.

So let’s get started with easy steps that will teach you how to start a mom blog in just a few steps.

Types of Mom Blogs

The first step in starting any blog is to decide what type of mom blog you want to create. Do you want to write about parenting tips, recipes or crafts?

Consider one of these 5 types of mom blogs:

1. Parenting/Family Blogs – Share parenting tips and stories about your family experiences.

2. Craft & DIY Blogs – Post creative craft projects and tutorials for readers to try at home.

3. Recipes & Food Blogs – Create delicious recipes, share cooking techniques and document your culinary adventures.

4. Lifestyle Blogs – Discuss lifestyle topics such as health, fitness and travel.

5. Mommy & Me Blogs – Document the special relationship between you and your children.

You can also write about your own personal experiences as a mom, or even review products that would be useful for other moms.

Once you’ve decided on the type of blog you want to create, it’s time to get started! Develop a plan for your blog, then set up your website and start writing. You can also consider starting a newsletter or creating social media accounts to share your content.

Choosing a Blog Name

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves… the first step is to decide what you blog will be called and check on the availability of the domain name.

My favorite tool for this is NameCheckr. Not only does it tell you if the domain name is available, but it also shows you if the social media accounts are available for that name. It’s so helpful for setting up a new domain.

One important thing to remember is that along with SEO and content, you’ll be driving traffic to your website so as long as you like the name and it has longevity you can pick whatever you like. This is definitely not the step to stress over.

Once you have settled on a name, it’s time to register your domain and set up hosting for your blog. As a starting blogger, I recommend starting with shared hosting such as Hostinger (what I use) or Siteground – they offer great starting packages and are very affordable.

Which Blog Platform Should You Use?

Next, you’ll need to choose a blogging platform and design your blog. This can be done with free or paid services depending on your budget. Some of the popular blog platforms mom bloggers use are:

  • WordPress
  • Wix
  • Shopify

Each of these platforms have benefits and drawbacks, but the most popular is easily WordPress. The dot com platform hosts over 60 million websites and is free to use. What’s not to like?

Because it’s the gold standard for bloggers, you’ll find that there’s tons of apps and resources to help you build your blog. Plus, WordPress also has a thriving community of bloggers and developers who are always ready to help each other out.

So that’s the starting point for starting a mom blog – decide what type of blog you want to create, pick a domain name and platform, then get to work!

Planning Content

You’ll also have to come up with content ideas, decide on a posting schedule, and create an editorial calendar. Writing down post ideas in advance will help you stay on track and make sure that your blog is regularly updated.

Starting a spreadsheet in Google Drive or using a free app like Airtable can help bloggers drop ideas into a space while keeping them organized.

Create Quality Content

Now that your blog is set up, it’s time to start creating content! Before starting any post, you should create a plan of action so you have a consistent flow of content going out. You can do this by creating an editorial calendar and scheduling posts in advance.

When starting a blog, it’s important to write original content that is both helpful and engaging. You want readers to come back for more! Make sure you focus on topics that are relevant to your audience and add images or videos to make the post even more

It’s also important to write about what readers are looking for. To find that information, you can use the Google search bar to find the most popular topics in your niche and see what readers are looking for.

Finally, as you’re starting out, it’s important to focus on SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This will help your blog rank higher in search engine results so more readers can find you. To do this, use keywords in your titles and throughout the post.

Use a keyword research site like KeySearch or Ahrefs to look for terms that work well in your specific niche.

Social Media for Blogs

Once you have created content, it’s time to promote it! You can use social media or email marketing to get the word out about your blog and drive traffic back to your website.

A few ways you can do this is by starting a Facebook page, creating an Instagram account and utilizing Twitter to share links back to your website. You can also use influencers in your industry to help promote your blog.

Creating content for social media is also important when starting a mom blog- it’s easy to post links from your blog on other platforms but you should go the extra mile and create unique posts for each platform. This will help increase engagement, followers, and ultimately readership of your blog.

Building a community on social media is also important- starting conversations with potential readers can be the difference between starting a successful mom blog or one that just gets lost in the shuffle.

Starting a mom blog can be a great way to share your experiences with others, build an audience, and potentially even make money. With the right plan in place, you’ll be well on your way to creating a successful mom blog!
